Attorney Scott Mossman has practiced immigration law exclusively since receiving his law license from the State Bar of California in 2003. He founded the Law Office of Scott A. Mossman in 2004. The firm began with removal defense and family-based immigration cases and then expanded into the specialized area of immigration consequences of crime (crimmigration). Scott's firm has always been located in Oakland, California, where he lives with his wife and two sons.

Maria L. Muñoz, Legal Assistant

Maria Muñoz joined the Law Office of Scott A. Mossman as a legal assistant in May of 2009. ¬†She previously worked at a business immigration law firm in San Francisco. ¬†Maria's many years of experience make her very knowledgeable about immigration case processes, particularly adjustment of status and immigrant visas for family members, U visa petitions, naturalization, and work permit and green card renewals. Maria is a native of Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.

Maria is primarily responsible for communicating with people who are interested in hiring our firm. She guides potential clients in collecting the information and documents needed for their initial consultation. For existing clients, she tracks and follows up on pending applications and Freedom of Information Act requests and assists with work and travel authorization renewals.


Mary E. Virbes Mateo, Legal Assistant

Mary Virbes Mateo joined our firm in 2017. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a bachelor of arts degree in criminology. Prior to graduating, she worked two summers as a legal assistant at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Mary is a native of Guatemala and is fluent in Spanish and Q'anjob'al, a Mayan language.

Mary is primarily responsible for assisting with the preparation and filing of immigration applications.
